OldHippie.com‘s Free Classified Ads
Buy and sell your drag racing items.
On September 26, 2010, OldHippie.com installed a brand new Free Classified Ads system for it’s members to use. We encourage you to take advantage of this free benefit — and tell your friends of it. The more people who use it — the better it will be for both buyers and sellers.
About:
A benefit of membership in the forums of Old Hippie.com is the free use of the classified ads. In the Free Classified Ad web site you will find categories to buy and sell just about anything you can think of — from vehicles and items for the home; to office furniture and machinery; to collectibles and real estate.
With each ad, member’s can upload up to 9 photos that can be up to 800 pixels wide. Members are encouraged to upload photos with their listings, as items listed with photos are rotated onto showcases for Recent Listings, Most Popular Listings, and Random Listings. Those items without photos do not make it onto those show cases.
How To Use
Member’s registered to post in the forums are ready to post ads without any further action. If they’re logged onto the forums — then they’re also logged in at the Free Classified Ads — as both applications share the same registration database and log on cookies. If you are not yet registered to post — doing so it quick, easy, and free. Click here to register for the forums and free classified ads.
In the navigation bar of most any page on the site — you will find a link labeled Free Classified Ads. Clicking that link will take you to the site. Navigate to the category you wish to place an ad, and then click the link in the NavBar labeled Place An Ad. Placing the ad is just a matter of filling in the boxes.
Be sure to also list how to contact you (phone number and/or email address), and the location of the item. The more information/photos you give about the item, location and contact information — the better your chances of selling the item. If you wish to be notified when someone comments (asking questions) about your item — you will need to check the box in your ad to be updated, and you need to have your forum User CP set to receive email from the administrator (the default unless you physically change it).
Membership Benefits
The number of free ads you are allowed is based on your level of membership — but generous in all cases. Registered Users receive 5 free ads, Moderators receive ten, Premium members also get 10, and Founding members receive 50. Additionally, premium and founding members can upgrade their ads with Bold and/or italics, and Founding can additionally have their ads highlighted. These are $5 options for other members. There are instructions on how to upgrade your membership for $20 (Lifetime) on the forums.
The seller can set the term of the ad to run from 1 day to 90 days. Ads go away after the expiration, freeing it up for the member to reuse for placing another ad.
Safety:
Many people have sold millions of dollars of items on the previous Free Classified Ads site here and the one on MoparStyle — without being ripped off. However that said, whenever someone wants to buy or sell something, there will always be scam dogs wanting to separate a fool from his money no matter where or how he advertises the item for sale.
One scam is called the “Nigerian” Scam — where the buyer (often in another Country) offers to send you much more money that the cost of the item — so that you can pay for the transporting and send him the change — which is often 100s or 1000s. The scam works because you are sending them real change for their bogus money. Use caution with dealing with anyone outside the country — as you have no real recourse.
Another Scam aimed at the seller is counterfeit Money Orders or Cashier’s Checks. I will take a Bank Cashier’s check — if I can call the bank and verify with them that they did indeed issue that check. That requires that you are presented with the Cashier’s Check during banking hours — and this is why many of these Cashier Check Scams occur in the evenings and weekends.
If you receive a personal check — you should not release the item for 7 banking days after depositing the check.
One form of payment that is as good as gold is Interbank Wire Transfer through the Federal Banking system. Once the money is in your account from a IBWT — it is yours. It is the only form of payment (short of cash) that I trust for larger transactions.
The best method to protect yourself, regardless of if you are the buyer or seller, is to ask all of your questions and assume nothing. Trust your intuition. If it doesn’t sound right, doesn’t feel right, or the other party just isn’t coming across as being honest with his answers — take extra precautions in the transaction.
If you are not big, armed, and have a lot of people at your residence like me, and someone is coming to look at the item you have for sale (like a vehicle) — you may want to meet in a more public place and with a friend.
None of this is meant to scare you, as 99% of transactions are free of danger or fraud. However, that is usually because proper precautions are being taken.
Disclaimer:
Old Hippie.com only provides the vehicle for buyers and seller to be introduced to each other. It accepts no responsibility for any of the items listed, or the people who are part of the transaction. Buyers and sellers are urged to use common sense practices when dealing with any stranger.
If you have a Question, Comment or Problem Using The Free Classified Site:
If you have any further questions, would like to suggest a category, or are having a problem using the Free Classified site — then please post it in this thread. In that way someone will quickly be able to help you, and if the thread doesn’t already have a solution from someone previously having a similar problem — it will be help for someone in the future with that problem. Moderators will monitor the thread — so check back for your answer or solution.
Now go grab that digital camera, take some photos of stuff that you will never use taking up space, and turn those items into cash.

NSS Race At Lonestar Shootout
Indy Cylinder Head Nostalgia Super Stock Class: Love big ’60s muscle cars? If so, you will want to check out the Nostalgia Muscle Car class where you can see some of best muscle cars of all time in original trim racing down the 1320. The race purse for this class will be all combined competitor entry fees paid to top-8 racers.
If you have a NSS car — then this is your last chance to race before putting the car up for the winter. The weather is generally cool, but not cold — and the track is at near sea level. Here’s a chance to set your car’s personal best, and since all driver entry is put into the purse — a big purse.
Contact Dave Schultz if you need your arm twisted further — or have a question.

Victory Performance Products/Mickey Thompson Tires Nostalgia Super Stock Series was won by Clay Kossuth from Catawissa, MO.
Kussuth had to win the event to capture the championship and he did that by beating Randy Burgeon, Owensville, MO, who was racing his ‘63 Dodge Ramcharger clone. Kossuth booted his nine-second/130mph+ ’63 Dodge to the win and the Championship.
The Grump Recovering
09/24/10

From the NHRA web site….
Legendary drag racer Bill “Grumpy” Jenkins, is currently recovering from a subdural hematoma procedure that took place Sept.9.
Jenkins’ wife, Polly, said, “Bill’s blood pressure and other vital signs are good at this point, he is bright and alert, and we are currently weaning him off of various other medications. I would like to point out that contrary to unauthorized information that has been posted on the internet, Bill did not suffer a stroke. We want to thank Bill’s many fans for their well wishes.”

So What Happened Saturday?
09/19/10
New Server and Hacked In the Same Day

If you visited this site on Saturday from 3Pm to 2AM — you may have been told that the site had a Malware link in it, if you were using FireFox or Chrome as your browser. Those using Explorer didn’t have that problem. It was all just the capper on a tough day of 20 hours in front of the computer.
The day started earlier with getting ready for this site to move off it’s 4-year old server that was dying, with one of the baddest-assed servers to ever be racked. I’ll not bore you with the technical aspects of doing this — but it is suffice to say that is complicated and a PITA. This new server has twice the CPUs, they’re twice as fast; it has twice the memory, and it is faster; and it has a pair of 1TB drives that are RAID mirrored (and UPS backed-up) replacing the 256 GB drives. Speed has been dramatically improved. We were back up at about 2PM Central time.
However, at about 3PM, www.oldhippie.com was being blocked by Google on the Chrome and FireFox browsers. While I was working on that — Google started bringing down my other sites www.NSS-Racing.com and then www.NostalgiaDragRacers.com. It was apparent that by the end of the night all of my sites would be blocked.
We initially thought the problem was something with the new server, and wasted too much time chasing our tail in that direction. It was a pure coincidence. It turns out that I, and thousands of others, had a security hole in OpenX (the software that serves banners) exploited by hackers on Friday night — before the server swap. It took until 3AM to find the 14 different places the database was hacked, and to upgrade the software with instructions that were as clear as mud. Following all that, I had to sign off that the sites were fixed — and wait for Google to re-crawl them and absolved my from my sins.
Today — we’re on a faster server, and all of the problems I’m aware of have been resolved.
2011 NSS Wall Calendars
09/18/10
The below are a Few of the 2011 NSS Wall Calendars created from Hi-Res photos of NSS cars. Quite honestly, some of the photos are from previous years, and have been recycled — albeit with new covers. There is a thread in the NSS Forum that has more detail on the calendar. They’re normally priced at $21 on Cafe Press — but clicking the accompanying links — you can for a limited time get them for a discounted price of $17.99. Please pass along these links to your NSS buds — so they too can save a couple bucks.
These calendars make excellent Christmas gift. Shipping is cheap (no rip-offs on the S&H).

NSS Photos From The Monster
09/16/10
I took the below photos while in the stands at the Monster this past weekend.
St. Louis Monster Mopar weekend to move?
From: http://www.dragracingonline.com/agent1320/2010/1320-xii_9-18.html
With the news that Gateway International Raceway in Madison, Ill., will be shuttered next season by owners Dover Motorsports unless a buyer can be found, the Monster Mopar Weekend that has been held yearly at that track will have to find a new home. The Agent found out that Steve Sieveking, who owns the race, is shopping it around to potential buyers. But obviously if the track closes then the future of the long-standing event may be in jeopardy.
We’ll have photos and results from last weekend’s 2010 event coming soon in Mopar Max. [09/15/10]
There is an interesting discussion on the situation at Gateway (taxes owed, bonds, power outages, potential buyer, city and county taxes….) at Gateway Closing? Link

Ed Miller and the Texas Timing Association will be hosting the biggest nostalgia drag racing event of the year in the state of Texas on October 23 at San Antonio Raceway. The Texas Timing State Championships will play host to the Outlaw Fuel Altereds, Southwest Junior Fuelers and Texas Blown Fuel Associations.
Over two dozen blown nostalgia-style racecars, a full field of injected junior fuel dragsters, several live bands playing and plenty of nostalgia bracket racers and cacklefest cars are on the bill. The Inside Drag Racing television show will be filming the event for an entire episode to be aired shortly after the event. For more information visit www.texastiming.com.

Friday had us waking up to a very wet track. It was late afternoon before it was dry and NSS was allowed it's first Time Trial, which about 75% of the cars participated in. The second Time Trial on Friday was cancelled after the third set ran — due to an oil down. Later that evening Chris Schneider sponsored a Bar-B-Q that benefited Racers For Christ.
Saturday had a quick Time Trial in the Morning, and the Class Eliminations started at noon. Below are Part 1 and Part 2 of Round One of the Class Eliminations. The slower Classes in the beginning working up to the faster classes.

LinearDyne ET Predictor With Computer For Sale
Link: http://www.oldhippie.com/freeclassifiedads/showproduct.php/product/389
LinearDyne Performance ET Prediction Tool & Weather Station with Dell Notebook Computer.
A few years ago, the best weather station out there was the LinearDyne. It was invented by a pilot who was also a drag racer that had one of the earliest finite understandings of how the weather affected ETs in bracket and Index Racing. The below is what was on their web site.
“LinearDyne Performance has combined state of the art atmospheric data gathering equipment with precision mathematical modeling algorithms to create a system that will revolutionize the way bracket racing is done.”
In a nutshell, this system would sample the weather and use the database of previous runs for the car to predict what your car would run if the pass were to happen right then. If you were a bracket racer, you’d change the number; and if you were on an index the computer would tell you how much weight to add or take out. The system will also act ad a racer log by keeping track of the car’s passes, maintenance, notify you of upcoming maintenance, and you could track as many cars as you wanted without having to buy an additional license.
This system was virtually infallible to .01 second.
Sadly, it wasn’t promoted well and the company quickly went out of business. If you search on the Internet you will see quite a few posts of people looking to buy used LinearDyne systems — as they were that accurate. While a few companies have taken the ball and run with it on newer (and maybe a more “User-Friendly” interface to switch cars) versions costing $1000 for the first car — there are a lot of people who still prefer LinearDyne for its accuracy.
This sale comes with an older (but lightly used and loaded up for the time) Dell Inspirion 8100 Notebook with Windows, Office, and other applications (can’t find the notebooks manuals or programs disks), the LinearDyne application installed, the LinearDyne application CDs, and the LinearDyne weather sampler device. It is everything you need to do your weather station, ET Prediction, and racer log right now — plus a computer loaded up with applications.
I just fired it and everything works. I bought it new and only used it a few times — and frankly can’t remember how to use it well enough to give lessons, but I do remember it was easy to figure out and there are a ton of racers on bulletin boards that can answer any detailed questions.

Computer loaded up with applications other than the weather station makes this an even sweeter deal!
